Review: Star of Justice by Robynn Tolbert

Review by Pauline Creeden

Last week, I gushed over my favorite book of 2011. I know that there are still six weeks or so left in 2012, and that I’ve only read about 90 books so far this year, and will likely finish about 12 more (Currently reading 4). But I’m going to declare a winner…thus far.

A couple weeks ago I read a debut fantasy novel by author Robynn Tolbert called Star of Justice. The cover is that confusing yet non-descript picture to the left. Yes, shoot me now, because I choose books by their cover FREQUENTLY and I hate the cover to this one.

So why did I choose this book to read? The author is in one of my email groups, and the book was on sale. Yes, I’m also the kind who loves sales. So I picked it up to show the author support.

Then it sat on my Kindle for weeks. – I have over 1,000 books on my Kindle, some of them I’ve read, and some I likely will never read. My goal as an Amazon Top Reviewer is to do as much as I can to help new authors with few reviews. I saw that after a couple months of this author’s book being on the market, she still didn’t have many reviews, so I bit the bullet and started her book.

It caught me in its plot like a bear-trap. I couldn’t put it down. The characters were so rich and complex, the love story so believable. Even the fantasy elements were familiar yet told in a refreshing new light. And just when you think the story’s over, it has one more heart-wrenching twist.

The only fault I can give it is that I can’t recommend it to younger readers because of the sexual innuendos peppered throughout the story and some fairly violent scenes. Still, a genuine 5-star read.

Star of Justice is still on sale for $2.99 (Kindle Version)
