Isis can control her dreams. Or she could—until recently. The creature in her nightmares has been haunting her for months. As if being dumped wasn’t bad enough, now she dreads going to sleep. She decides to confront the creature and win back some of her peace; only, she finds that he’s not a monster and he’s not a dream.

A sacrifice for love, a shocking discovery and a jealous ex-boyfriend blur the lines between reality and dreams, making it hard to tell who the real monsters are.

Who would’ve known…that sometimes love is lethal?

Although a common theme among YA novels, Nely Cab makes takes a fresh, original take on the development of young romance. The book centers around a young girl who has been heartbroken by a boyfriend who informed her of their brake up via text-message. (An unfortunate, yet commonplace experience.) To make matters worse, she is plagued with a recurrent nightmare which has given her clinical insomnia. When her doctor gives her medication and forces her to face her fears, the nightmare takes an unexpected turn when it becomes reality.

I was hooked into this story from the first page, and found myself thinking of it long after I put down my kindle. Isis, the main character, is a strong, confident young woman and makes a good role model without being too “Susie-Q.” As the novel progresses and the romance begins, the author brings out every romantic situation imaginable, showing the desirability of a chivalrous, thoughtful man. The story has themes and conflicts that teenagers will find easy to relate to, but with a slightly dark twist. The novel itself is clean and refreshing. An easy read for teens and up. As a mother, I wouldn’t mind turning this over to a thirteen or fourteen year old, but some of the situations would be better understood by a slightly older reader. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys paranormal romance.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest, not necessarily positive review ~ but I enjoyed it so much, I will be buying it in paperback to share with teens that I mentor.
