The Beloved Daughter

Synopsis: In a small North Korean village, a young girl struggles to survive. It is her father’s faith, not the famine of North Hamyong Province, that most threatens Chung-Cha’s well-being. The Beloved Daughter follows Chung-Cha into one of the most notorious prison camps the contemporary free world has known. Her crime? Being the daughter of a Christian.

Our Review:

This book really hits home for me. Because I’m half Korean, (My mother was born near Seoul) I had a certain level of intimacy with the characters, so that even the names sounded familiar to me. And this made me especially sensitive to the abuse and torture of the characters and their horrid situations. Abuse of Christians in North Korea is a current situation, not something off in the distant past. It’s reality today. The author does a phenomenal job of making their plight a reality for readers who are completely clueless to the struggle of the underground church.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED – but have tissues handy.
